TRADITIONAL AND IMPLANT-SUPPORTED DENTURES

Our caring staff at Cornerstone Dental Arts – Fort Sanders West will treat you with compassion and empathy while helping to restore your smile with our custom-designed dentures. These restorations can replace all or most of your dental arch. Our Knoxville, TN, practice can provide implant-supported dentures, which offer unique benefits such as greater stability and improved jawbone health. We also offer traditional restorations.

WHAT TYPE OF DENTURE IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Dentures can be full or partial. We will conduct a comprehensive evaluation to determine which type is best for you. To qualify for dental implants, you must have sufficient jawbone tissue. If you have been missing teeth for a long time and have suffered resulting bone recession, your jaw may not be strong enough to support the implant posts. Fortunately, we can often perform a bone graft, restoring both lost tissue and your implant candidacy. Along with a healthy jaw, you must also be in good physical and periodontal health.

WHAT TO EXPECT

We want your denture to fit as comfortably and securely as possible. Therefore, we will carefully design your restoration to match the exact dimensions of your smile. We will take impressions of your gums and remaining teeth. If you choose to receive a traditional prosthetic, our lab will create a restoration with a plastic base that sits securely over your alveolar ridge. With access to the latest restorative materials, the ceramists will fabricate your denture with a lifelike color and sparkle. Once your denture is ready, we will check the fit. If you are not happy with the way it feels at any time, adjustments can be made.

If you decide on an implant-supported denture, we will place the implants (usually, you will require four to six posts per dental arch). After your jaw has healed and the implants are secure, Dr. Kinder or Dr. Whitaker will attach abutment pieces. These will then connect to your denture. Our lab will take the same care in fabricating implant-supported restorations as they do with traditional prosthetics.

THE BENEFITS

Both types of dentures can renew your oral function, enabling you to enjoy a varied and healthy diet. Your prosthetic can also enhance your appearance, not only by replacing your teeth, but also by filling out your lips and cheeks. In turn, you can expect to feel much more confident, which could improve your overall demeanor and quality of life.

Implant-supported dentures offer additional advantages of their own. They will not shift out of place, so you can eat any foods you choose. This solution also allows you to speak more clearly. Further, implant-supported dentures usually do not require adjustments because the implants prevent the jaw from changing shape in the absence of tooth roots. As a result, they may save you a significant amount of money over time. Additionally, implants can prevent jawbone recession, changing facial contours, and an aged appearance.
